» Stonehenge Sunset Winter Sosltice Special: 21st DECEMBER 2015

''Stonehenge is carefully aligned on a sight-line that points to the winter solstice sunset on December 21st. Witness the sun setting at Stonehenge from the ceremonial Avenue on the most important day of the Celtic Calanderle » Avebur

At the stones, there will be an opportunity to walk and explore the surroundings of the monument including the Avenue, Stonehenge's ancient processional approach, guided by new interpretation panels specially developed with the National Trust. The Avenue will have been reconnected to the stone circle after being severed by the A344 road for centuries, the whole area will be free of traffic, and newly-sown grass will be establishing on the former route of the road.

"This Will Change People's Experience of Stonehenge Forever"

Witness the sun setting at Stonehenge from the ceremonial Avenue. This will be at sunset and 2013 will be the first time visitors / worshippers have witnessed the sun setting behind the Stones without fences and roads obscuring the views being the first time for many generations. Recent revelations suggest that the Winter Solstice is the most important day of the year at Stonehenge. A unique opportunity and a truly magical experience!

Stonehenge Winter Solstice 2015

Stonehenge is carefully aligned on a sight-line that points to the winter solstice sunset.

It is thought that the Winter Solstice was actually more important to the people who constructed Stonehenge than the Summer Solstice and exciting recent archaeological revelations prove this theory. The Winter Solstice was a time when most cattle were slaughtered (so they would not have to be fed during the winter) and the majority of wine and beer was finally fermented. The exact time for the Winter Solstice is December 21st: 17.11 (UK time). The sunset on the 21st is at 15.53pm. We will be there for sunset!

Visit Avebury Stone Circle on the Winter Solstice

Avebury Henge is one of the Wonders of Ancient Britain. Originally, the megalithic complex consisted of over 700 standing stones and contained the world’s largest stone circle. Long and meandering stone avenues coursed for one and a half miles which led to the inner circles and the heart of the stone temple.

Stonehenge Sunset

Salisbury Cathedral

Walk amongst the Stones with the Druids and Pagans absorbing the magic of the largest Stone Circle in the world at one of the most important times of year. Take time to reflect upon its powerful, mysterious presence and the ancient engineering and design.

Enjoy a walking tour of this ancient and see the many Druids and Pagans gathering for the solstice celebrations. There's also time to explore the charming village with its thatched cottages, antiques and Saxon village church. Maybe enjoy a traditional cream tea or if you are feeling brave enough why not try some local ale in Avebury's haunted Inn, the Red Lion (the most haunted pub in England) before we continue to Salisbury via the scenic country back roads

You will pass famous white horses carved into the chalk hillsides and picturesque, tucked away villages. We also explore the mysterious phenomena of crop circles and take a closer look at any which may be in the area (seasonal generally from May to August). Their appearance is always unexpected, unpredictable and largely unexplained. We will pass ancient burial mounds and the mysterious Silbury Hill. This is Europe's largest prehistoric man-made monument yet still a mystery to modern day man.

Salisbury Cathedral and traditional Christmas market: A Sparkling start to Christmas

Explore the historic city of Salisbury which during our visit will be holding their annual Christmas Market. A host of beautifully decorated chalets will offer inspiring gifts, a Father Christmas Grotto and gourmet food as well as traditional music and carols to serenade you while you shop. Enjoy traditional carols, seasonal refreshments of hot mulled wine and delicious mince pies (not included). Guaranteed too get you in the festive mood before visiting the newly opened Stonehenge visitor centre and witness the Winter Solstice at sunset..

Explore the magnificent medieval Cathedral crowned with the tallest spire in Britain and built by medieval craftsmen back in the 13th Century. Salisbury probably has the finest medieval cathedral in Britain. See one of the only four surviving original texts of the Magna Carta in the Chapter House. The Magna Carta is one of the greatest constitutional documents of all times, showing the agreement reach between King John and his barons in 1215 AD.
